The first of two days of trade talks between China and the United States has now concluded, while a midnight deadline for an increase in tariffs is just hours away.

According to President Trump, a deal is still possible, and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He has expressed hope to ‘find an optimal way to resolve’ the deadlock.

China believes that raising tariffs is not a solution to the problems, Liu said, noting that it is harmful to China, to the United States and to the whole world.
