Students and teachers lead national strike against education cuts

Tens of thousands of students and teachers took to the streets across Brazil for a one-day strike to protest a 30 percent cut in funding for public schools and universities.

Many Brazilians are also angry with a government decision to suspend grants for masters and doctorate degrees and the possible defunding of sociology and philosophy departments.
