A social experiment in a Bogota school helps eliminate prejudice

Americas Now

A doll in a Bogota classroom is behind one of the country’s most successful program’s against racism.

It began when a teacher was trying to come up with an effective way to teach students about tolerance and acceptance. She brought a doll to school, dressed her in a uniform then made her a part of the class.

The students protected and cared for their new classmate.

The doll also happened to be black. And that made her function as a symbol of social inclusion.

Our Game Changer is Colombian teacher Carmenza Novoa.

Variations of Carmenza Novoa’s initiative are being implemented at other schools in Colombia. She’s also been honored by the Africa School in Medellin.
