Los Jathas mixes ancestral melodies from the Andes with non-traditional sounds

Music plays a very important role in Bolivia and in the Andean culture especially when played during festivals and religious gatherings.

Songs contain heavy Spanish influences where string instruments complement the ancestral sounds of wind instruments.

A group in Bolivia is continuing with the tradition of playing folkloric tunes but with a modern approach.

They came together when they were in high school in the capital city, La Paz and have been representing their culture ever since.

The Bolivian band known as “Los Jathas” is this week’s Urban Voice.

Los Jathas has recorded three albums. The group’s popularity has grown throughout Latin America and Europe.
