British conservative party leader Boris Johnson is set to become the United Kingdom’s next Prime Minister, cementing the ushering in of a wave of populist ideologies and propelling far-right fringe groups further into the British mainstream.

But victory was not always inevitable and, similar to political tensions in the United States, upcoming elections and an uncertain Brexit has serious implications for U.S. and U.K. relations.
