The Heat: Movement to boycott Israel

The Heat

The Palestinian-led movement called Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions,  better known as BDS is making news again.

The global campaign, which seeks to put economic and political pressure on Israel over its treatment of Palestinians, has been around for more than a decade.

Its goals include ending Israeli occupation of the West Bank. But BDS has also been denounced by Israeli leaders and their supporters as being anti-Semitic, a charge it denies.

And last week that debate played out on Capitol Hill with the U.S. House of Representatives passing a resolution condemning the movement.

To discuss all of this:

  • Omar Barghouti is co-founder of the BDS Movement.
  • Daniel Pomerantz is the executive director of Honest Reporting and an attorney.
