Turkey’s operation into Syria entered its fourth day on Saturday with intense attacks continuing on both sides of the border. CGTN’s Michal Bardavid has the latest.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan remains defiant against international calls to halt the operation and says he will not be deterred.

Turkish civilians affected by the attacks in border towns say the support the government despite losses.

As Turkey’s air and ground assault into Northern Syria continued on Saturday smoke once again filled the air across the Turkish – Syrian border.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry announced it had seized control of the Syrian town of Ras-al-ain from the Syrian Kurdish Group YPG, which Ankara considers a terrorist organization.

Turkey is determined to continue its push forward. On Saturday, a Turkish convoy carrying military tanks headed to the Akcakale border.

Over 70,000 people have been displaced inside Syria according to UN officials.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s border towns have been facing daily attacks. Mortar shells and rockets have hit the border towns of Akcakale, Nusaybin and Ceylanpinar.

Even though many of the locals in Akcakale support the government’s operation but there is a lot of concern for the safety of children.

Schools in several border towns were shut down for the first 3 days of the operation.

Despite having suffered some casualties and receiving international condemnation, Ankara says it will move forward with the operation until the safe zone with a targeted depth of 30 kilometers is established.
