Esther Duflo is the second woman to ever win the Nobel Prize in Economics. In the 118-year history of the Nobel Prize, only 53 women have been awarded in any category, compared to 870 men.
Institutions behind the most prestigious prize on earth say they have taken action to address the gender gap, including electing more women to the committees responsible for nominating candidates and instructing scholars to consider diversity. But there is little evidence, that the body behind the award recognizing change-makers has delivered change itself.
