Leaving a street gang can be difficult and deadly

Americas Now

In Central America and the United States, gangs are linked to drug trafficking and some of the most vicious crimes. The notorious MS-13 gang, for example, is responsible for numerous brutal murders. And trying to leave a gang, or refusing to join one, can be fatal.

Correspondent Mike Kirsch reports on the challenges of gang members risking their lives in their quest for rehabilitation and freedom.

He had the extraordinary opportunity to meet with three ex-gang members who agreed to discuss this violent world. They also tell him how they are now trying to convince young people to leave gang life or not join a gang in the first place.
