Former Nicolas Maduro advisor Temir Porras explains the political state of affairs currently at play in Venezuela.

In January of 2019 an opposition leader named Juan Guaido declared himself Venezuela’s “acting president.” In the months that followed over 65 countries supported his declaration. But President Nicolas Maduro is still in office.

Temir Porras was chief of staff for Maduro’s government and a highly-ranked official in the Chavez administration.

“Americas Now” anchor Elaine Reyes asked him to explain why Guaido hasn’t been successful in seizing the presidential post.
