Chile has been in the grips of mass demonstrations and violence. What began as a protest over a rise in subway fares- now suspended – has grown into the country’s worst civil unrest in decades.

Scores dead, thousands arrested, and so far, no signs the demonstrations are ending.

Chile is one of the most stable and prosperous countries in the region – but that prosperity hasn’t been shared by most – and THAT appears to be the root of the escalating discontent.
