High tide worries Venice after flooding

World Today

Venice is bracing for another water surge on Sunday. St. Mark’s Square has been re-opened to the public, but for some local businesses, the damage has already been done.

CGTN’S Danielle Robertson reports from Venice.

St. Mark’s Square has been re-opened to the public, and the government has pledged 20 million euros to help with the damage.

But the cost of this state of emergency is expected to be much more.

With the rain now replaced with sunny skies, many are in damage control.

But high tides expected to hit 1.5 meters again on Sunday, making repair and recovery a long way off.
