BRICS nations meet in Brazil to discuss global issues and accelerate trade

Brazil hosted this year’s annual summit for the group of five countries known as BRICS.

The leaders of Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa (BRICS) convened in Brasilia, the country’s capital since 1960. Chinese President Xi Jinping played a major role in the 2019 talks.

BRICS has become an important international alliance. The five emerging economies of the bloc account for nearly half of the world’s population, 30% of the world’s land and almost 20% of global trade.

“Americas Now” anchor Elaine Reyes reports from Brasilia on the summit. She tells us that when it comes to markets and the global economy, these countries are making their presence known and re-shaping the world.
