Chinese-Canadian consortium wins $4B Bogota metro deal

Colombia’s capital will finally have a mass rapid transit system for its more than 7 million citizens.

The contract to build a subway for Bogota was signed at Colombia’s Presidential House.

The $4 billion contract was awarded to a consortium made up of China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, Xi’an Metro Company and Canada’s Bombardier Inc.

The consortium will operate the system for the next 20 years and will be involved in every aspect including design, building and operation.

Colombia expects the project to create around 60,000 new jobs.
