Statelessness in Colombia has left thousands of children without a nationality

“Statelessness” means not having a nationality tied to any country. According to the UN’s Refugee Agency, some people are born stateless others become stateless.

Venezuelans relocate to Colombia according to the country’s Migration Director. Among those migrating are pregnant women.

Colombia recently approved a law to grant Colombian citizenship to children born from Venezuelan migrants. It will prevent 24,000 children from becoming stateless.
