Around the world, numerous countries have witnessed a resurgence of strongman politics with many governments embracing populist ideals. 

Leaders such as U.S. President Donald Trump, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have come to power by making patriotic appeals to the people and railing against the elite.

Immigration has also been the driving force of populist nationalism in Northern and Eastern Europe and the United States.
