Iranian general Qasem Soleimani’s burial was delayed after dozens were killed in a stampede in his hometown of Kerman.
50 people are dead and more than 200 are injured during Tuesday morning’s funeral events.
The BBC reports, the streets of the city were not wide enough for the number of people attending the funeral procession.
They also report, the burial resumed later that day, according to Iranian media reports.
Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike authorized by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif says the killing is an “act of war.”
At a briefing on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said if Iran makes another “bad choice”, the president will respond in a “decisive, serious manner.”
