Taliban resume attacks on Afghan government days after U.S. deal

President Trump says he spoke on the phone with a senior Taliban leader, a first between an American president and the militant group.

It comes days after the U.S. signed an agreement with the Taliban that could lead to the withdrawal of foreign troops after 18 years.

Despite the agreement, the Taliban have launched dozens of attacks against Afghan security forces. But the group says it will no longer target U.S. and coalition forces.
