With the constant news cycle and uncertainty behind the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization says it’s important to protect your mental health.

March 20th is International Day of Happiness. As countries around the world either brace for or work to contain COVID-19, here are some ways you can maintain your mental health.

The United Nations has three tips: keep calm, stay wise, and be kind.

The World Health Organization released its own guidance on mental health considerations surrounding COVID-19.

For the average person in self-isolation, it offers three suggestions:

1. Stay connected and maintain social networks. If physical social contact is limited, stay connected through video chat or social media.

2. Pay attention to your needs and feelings. Do healthy activities you enjoy, exercise regularly, keep a regular sleep schedule and eat healthy food.

3. Limit news consumption. Seek information you can use to prepare and protect yourself. Use reputable sources and listen to officials.

It’s important to not only protect yourself but also be supportive to others.

The WHO says “keep things in perspective. Public health agencies and experts in all countries are working on the outbreak to ensure the availability of the best care to those affected.”
