Summer sleepaway camp is a rite of passage for many American children. 

Getting into the outdoors and away from their families to develop more independence and bond with peers is a cherished experience for many. 

But this summer many sleepaway camps have closed amid the pandemic, causing an uncertain future for some camps and the towns that rely on them for business.
