The Heat: United Nations turns 75

The Heat

The 75th UN General Assembly is now underway in New York, but due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s meetings are being conducted virtually. Heads of State and presidents, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, will send a pre-recorded video message for next week’s UN General Assembly Debate. Only U.S. President Trump says he’s planning to speak live from the assembly hall. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling for a re-commitment from member countries to multilateralism.

Joining the discussion:

  • Victor Gao is a Chair Professor at Soochow University.
  • Anton Fedyashin is a Professor of History at American University.
  • Sarah Cliffe is the Director of New York University’s Center for International Cooperation.
  • Tijjani Muhammad-Bande is a Nigerian diplomat and served as the 74th president of the UN General Assembly.
