Capturing COVID-19 Through Latin American Lens

Americas Now

Nine men and nine women document life under a pandemic in Latin America through their lens.

When Latin America became the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic and countries like Brazil, Peru, Ecuador saw a dramatic rise in the number of cases, a photography collective composed of photographers from across Latin America documented the outbreak in 13 counties across the Americas’ region.
Launched by 9 women and 9 men, the photographer’s collective set up a project called “COVID Latam” to register, reflect upon, and analyze the impact the coronavirus is having on Latin Americans and its people.
The photos capture the drama and complexity of the crisis. They also offer a glimpse of hope that can be seen on both rural and urban streets as the continent copes with the pandemic.
