As doctors combat the pandemic, working alongside them are nurses.

An estimated 1,500 nurses have died from COVID-19 in 44 countries, many of them here in the U.S.

National Nurses United, a union with more than 150,000 members, says around 240 American nurses have died of complications related to the novel coronavirus. That’s roughly 16 percent of the global estimate.

Here in the United States, nurses of Filipino descent are among the hardest hit.
