In past presidential elections, Americans would generally know who won by the end of the night. Perhaps not this year, given the historic levels of mail-in ballots that need to be counted and the possibility the courts may need to step in and ultimately decide the next U.S. president. Both the Republican and Democratic parties are lining up lawyers in anticipation.
