Brazilian children prepare for Christmas holiday amid COVID pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of Brazilians in different ways, but it’s the country’s poorest citizens who are struggling the most.

Unemployment remains at historical highs and government emergency aid was cut in half in September and is set to run out at the end of this month.

One bright spot is a traditional NGO Christmas campaign in one of Rio de Janeiro’s most poverty-stricken favelas.

It is a reward for the ongoing work and dedication of a group of children to their own artistic development.

CGTN’s Lucrecia Franco reports.
