The result was never really in doubt.

In the end, seven Republicans joined with the Democrats to convict the former U.S. president by a 57 to 43 vote. But that was far from the two-third threshold required.

And while no witnesses appeared in person, dramatic new video revealed just how perilously close the violent mob came to succeeding in its alleged attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
