The Heat: Afghanistan Crisis

The Heat

With just weeks left before a deadline to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan, Washington is pushing for a peace deal between the Kabul government and the Taliban, ending two decades of war.

The U.S. is circulating a proposal calling for Ashraf Ghani’s government to be replaced with an interim administration, something the Afghan leader opposes.

President Ghani is instead floating new presidential elections in six months.
