Business eager for New York reopening to bring tourists back

As New York’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout gathers pace, the city’s infection rate continues to drop. The trend has prompted officials to begin lifting some of the restrictions put in place during the pandemic. More capacity limitations are being relaxed this weekend as the city hopes to lure tourists back.

Hair and nail salons are among other businesses now open at 75 percent capacity. With fitness centers set to open at 50 percent this weekend. New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio aims to see the city fully reopen by July 1 with Broadway theaters set to open their doors again in mid-September.

New York’s tourism promotion agency estimates that the city won’t see international tourism return to pre-pandemic levels until 2025.
