Full Frame: Cultural Diplomacy

Full Frame

There’s no doubt, successful cultural diplomacy will become a major challenge for international relations in the 21st century.

Full Frame host, Mike Walter, talks with cultural diplomacy expert, Curtis Sandberg, about the importance of international cultural exchange.

Art brings people together both physically and culturally. It can form connections that transcend differences. Nancy Berliner is a historian of Chinese art and architecture. She’s also the Wu Tung Curator of Chinese Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. After living in China for many years, she was inspired to bring little-known Chinese art forms back to the U.S. for public exhibition.

Museums are not just places for objects and artifacts. They can also be centers of knowledge exchange and social connection. Through cultural diplomacy, museums foster an awareness of our shared history and transmit common values. They hold up a mirror to society, introduce visitors to alternative points of view and foster a respect for diversity. That’s exactly the mission of one museum, currently underway in Washington, D.C. Mike Walter talks with Executive Director David Uy about what he hopes visitors will take away from the new Chinese American Museum.
