The Heat: U.S. immigration crisis

The Heat

For years, the United States has tried to solve the immigration crisis and failed. This week, Vice President Kamala Harris is meeting with leaders in Guatemala and Mexico in search of a solution. In April, the number of migrants apprehended while seeking asylum in the U.S. reached a 20-year high. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, border patrol agents apprehended more than 173,000 people. Of those, more than 111,000 were immediately expelled under a pandemic emergency health order.

CGTN’s Franc Contreras reports on the U.S. vice president’s trip and the major challenges facing the region.
