Some Californians petition for governor’s removal amid record spending

World Today

California is headed for a gubernatorial recall election, likely by the end of this year, after more than 1.6 million Californians signed a petition to remove their governor from office.

Meantime, Governor Gavin Newsom has announced his proposal for a record amount of spending in the state budget for the coming year.

His challengers criticize him for the timing of the announcement, while his supporters see the recall effort as a waste of money.
