A new poll released Sunday reveals what Americans think about President Joe Biden and how he has handled the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan.

The CBS News/YouGov poll found that views on the president and the U.S. withdrawal was strongly tied to how those surveyed voted in the 2020 election.

The poll was conducted between August 18-20 and surveyed 2,142 adults.

While Biden got a 50% approval rating overall, when it came to party lines, the disparity was very clear.

About 67 percent of the total polled said they did not think that Biden had a clear plan for evacuating American civilians from Afghanistan.

While views varied depending on how people voted, as much as 40% of Biden voters felt that he did not a clear plan.

Most Biden supporters and an overwhelming number of supporters for former President Donald Trump felt that the removal of U.S. troops had been handled ‘somewhat badly’ or ‘very badly’.

Trump supporters also overwhelmingly believed that terrorism against the United States will increase, while Biden supporters were split between believing terrorism would increase or stay the same.

When it came to assessing the level of responsibility on Biden or Trump for the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, who people voted for in 2020 was also a huge factor. However supporters of both Biden and Trump put significant responsibility on the Afghan government and the Afghan army.

One of the more telling results of the poll was about whether the U.S. should help Afghans who worked for U.S. troops and officials.

At least 1 in 5 Trump supporters said that the U.S. should not help those Afghans come to the U.S.

Nearly 20 percent of Trump supporters also said they felt the U.S. was doing ‘too much’ to help Afghans who are trying to leave Afghanistan.
