UNESCO adds Rio botanical garden to World Heritage Site

World Today

A botanical garden at the home of renowned landscape artist and amateur botanist, Roberto Burle Marx, was recently named a world heritage site by UNESCO, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science, and Culture.

The 40-hectare property earned the coveted status in July this year when the organization’s World Heritage Committee met in the Chinese city of Fuzhou.

It is the 23rd such site in Brazil.
