Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden prepare for virtual summit

Amid continued tensions between Beijing and Washington, but also some signs of renewed cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden are set to hold their first summit, albeit virtually.

The summit, long in the works, gives an opportunity for both leaders to try and cooperate on global issues like climate change while managing what Washington has described as strategic competition, and Beijing says are the beginnings of another US-backed cold war.
