Venezuelan migrants stranded at the Brazil border

Brazil reopened its border with Venezuela in June of this year, having closed it more than a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, a deluge of poor Venezuelans still crossed over, fleeing an economic meltdown at home.

Though they are admitted by Operation Welcome – a relief effort conducted by Brazil’s military and the United Nations – thousands have found themselves stranded at the border with no shelter and no support.
