California is getting ready to allocate $165 million of its state budget to fight anti-Asian hate crimes.

The move follows a spike in attacks against Asian residents left many families scrambling for donations to pay for the victims’ hospital bills, therapy costs, legal fees or funeral expenses.

The funding will also go to organizations working toward the prevention of hate crimes.
