U.S. avocado importers fear supply shortage and rising prices

The United States lifted a ban on imports of Mexican avocados last month, ending a week-long suspension that halted America’s primary supply of the produce. 

Worst fears over an imminent shortage of the fruit and soaring prices may have been averted. 

But ​U.S. experts and import agencies are now examining the merits of diversifying supply chains for the so-called ‘green gold’ — worth some $3 billion to Mexican exporters.
