The Heat: Push for eastern Ukraine

The Heat

Russia says it has taken control of the port of Mariupol in Eastern Ukraine and claims more than 1,000 Ukrainian marines have surrendered.

Ukraine’s defense ministry says it has no information on the surrender.

The strategic port city has been at the center of some of the heaviest fighting for weeks.

The mayor of Mariupol says some 21,000 civilians are dead and tens of thousands more are unable to leave.

On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres acknowledged there’s no diplomatic solution in sight.
