We begin in Beijing where efforts are underway to identify and isolate every new COVID-19 case. Millions of people are undergoing mass testing, and on Friday, all schools will close ahead of next week’s May Day holiday. Shanghai remains the hardest hit city in China with nearly 1, 300 local COVID-19 cases and more than 9,000 asymptomatic cases. Shanghai has reported 285 COVID-19 deaths, including 47 on Wednesday. All of the cases, mostly elderly and un-vaccinated people, had underlying diseases. Officials are rolling out mobile vaccination clinics in an effort to reach the elderly.
