Educators teach AAPI history despite growing backlash against “Critical Race Theory”

New Jersey and Illinois have become the first states to require public schools to teach Asian American and Pacific Islander history.

The move to include AAPI perspectives in the classroom is gaining support across the U.S. with more states considering similar legislation and a bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

But it comes at a time when the teaching of “critical race theory” is becoming increasingly controversial.
