World Today

The metropolitan region of Recife – the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Pernambuco – is on high alert for floods and mudslides.

Dozens of people have already been killed in rain-related disasters in the region since Wednesday – with the deadliest events thousands of others had their homes destroyed or had left due to the danger of new landslides.

And the rain continued on Monday – adding even more to the risk.
