New York subway stations face challenges in accessibility upgrades

The operators of the New York subway have agreed to make 95 percent of stations accessible to people with disabilities, but it’s going to take more than three decades to achieve. 

The Metropolitan Transit Authority, known as the MTA, made the pledge as part of a settlement agreement for two-class action lawsuits brought by disability rights campaigners. 

The network now faces a challenge to find the money for the project.
