Uruguay’s announcement it will enter negotiations over a free trade agreement with China dominated the Mercosur presidential summit on Thursday in Paraguay.

Argentina has proposed joint negotiations.

Mercosur, an economic and political bloc that includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay and a population of around 300 million, announced a new trade deal with Singapore, but it was the recent news from Montevideo that dominated this meeting.
