Brazilian indigenous women run for federal and state elections

A record number of Brazilian indigenous leaders, most of them women, are running in this year’s federal and state elections.

Independent of who wins the presidency, either incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro or leftist candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, these leaders want to have their own voice in government.

Among them is Tereza Arapium, who is running for Rio’s State legislature.
