Suriname’s fight against rising sea levels

It has the smallest coastline in South America, but Suriname is losing its battle with the Atlantic. Around 50 meters, or 160 feet, of shoreline is disappearing every year to rising sea levels. 

Despite its small size, the fate of Suriname has global significance. More than 90 percent of the country is covered by forest, making in a major carbon sink for the world.
