A series of fierce storms and tornadoes have devastated swaths of the U.S. South and Midwest over the past 24 hours, killing at least 21 people and injuring many others.

Five of those deaths took place in the state of Arkansas, but Illinois, Indiana and Iowa have also been hit by severe weather Friday and Saturday, only a week after deadly storms ripped across the U.S. Southeast.
