Former bank executives testify in Congress

The former chief executive of Silicon Valley Bank was repeatedly pressed by lawmakers for two days this week about tens of millions of dollars he and other leaders made despite the company’s collapse.

Gregory Becker sat alongside the former heads of Signature and First Republic Bank as lawmakers questioned them over bank runs that risked spreading panic among depositors at other U.S. banks.

As Owen Fairclough reports, there’s a familiar public anger about how much executives at these banks earned while their companies failed.
