Gary Matsumoto

Gary Matsumoto is Executive Producer, News and Programming for CGTN America. He is an Emmy-award winning investigative reporter/producer in business.

As a foreign correspondent for NBC News and Senior Correspondent for the Fox News Channel, he won numerous awards for his reports from more than 40 countries on five continents, including an Overseas Press Club of America Ben Grauer Award for best radio spot news. His Eastern Europe coverage in 1989, which included the fall of the Berlin Wall, are part of the permanent collection of the Paley Center for Media (formerly the Museum of Television and Radio) in New York.

As a correspondent for NBC Nightly News and the Today Show, his reports from Saudi Arabia and Iraq during the first Gulf War won an International Television and Film Awards Gold Medal for Best News Correspondent. His investigative reporting and producing for Bloomberg Television earned three national Emmy nominations and the network’s first Emmy.

In addition to in-depth knowledge in foreign affairs and business, Gary specializes in defense and science. He has been a U.S. Department of Defense War Pool correspondent twice and is the only journalist to complete toxic agent training with sarin and VX at the U.S. Army Chemical School. He has published in Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Pro Publica, Science Magazine, Scientific American and Nature.com.
