“Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry”, just two songs in an vast and award-winning catalog of Prince. His publicist confirms the legendary musician died at his home.

At age 19, when Prince first ventured out on the music scene, his sound was a synthesis of disco and pop-R&B.
As Prince’s music sensibility became more uninhibited, so did his lyrics and sense of fashion.
By 1982’s “1999” album, Prince had developed a band and a sound that would help him appeal to a wider, more mainstream audience.

Prince’s 1984 album and movie, “Purple Rain,” catapulted him into mainstream success and is still considered to be one of the most important pop albums of all time.
Following the huge success of “Purple Rain,” Prince continued to to integrate rock and psychedelic sensibilities into his brand of pop.

In the early 90s, Prince assembled a completely new band, The New Power Generation, and changed his writing style to fit their talents.

During the mid 90s, Prince had a heated dispute with his record company, Warner Brothers. In order to publish under other arrangements, he changed his name to a unique symbol.
