China Southern Airlines, one of China’s largest airlines, wants to grow its international flights. As part of that strategy, it just launched its first direct flight from Guangzhou to New York City linking the two business capitals for the first time. CCTV’s Karina Huber reports from New York.

China Southern Airline’s inaugural flight from Guangzhou touched down at New York City’s Kennedy Airport. It took just under 16 hours and was the first of four roundtrip flights per week.

A gala at the Plaza Hotel brought together executives of the company and representatives of New York’s tourism industry.

Chen Gang, the Executive Vice President of the airline, said it made good business sense to link the world’s financial capital with China’s manufacturing hub.

A new promotional partnership was also announced between the airline and New York State’s tourism agency called I Love New York.
